Our history

It all started with a small insulator

In 1956, fascinated by the opportunities of Bakelite, the first industrially manufactured plastic, the founding couple Hermann and Rosa Oechsle started manufacturing technical injection moulded parts, such as insulators and meter housing for the electrical industry and thread bobbins for the textile industry, from their own laundry room.

The world famous poster frame

In the 1970s, Hermann Oechsle developed the poster frame in its classic form, which is still found all over the world to this day, and thus became a pioneer in the area of poster frames made from plastic. As demand rose steadily, Oechsle established their own sales network with representatives in Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia. Today, these practical and sturdy frames are the international standard for the point of sale in department stores, supermarkets and specialist stores all over the world.

The next generation

The daughter of the company founders, Margit Oechsle, became managing director in 1988 – after studying for a degree in Business Studies and getting some initial work experience in her parents’ company previous to that. She continues to manage the company successfully in its second generation. In 1989 the entire company moved to a bigger building complex with production halls, shipping department, office space and a large warehouse. In the last 30 years, the company has undergone expansion several times due to steady growth: the new injection moulding plant opened in 2009, in 2015 another storey with a large customer showroom was built on the office building and in 2018, more space was created for logistics and shipping as part of an HGV rerouting.

Design and development

In addition to classical, tried and tested products for the point of sale in the area of sales promotion and price labelling, Oechsle is and has always been committed to development and innovation. As early as the 1990s, Oechsle engineers developed the first solutions for an extensive range of shelf management systems.

LED Shelf lighting and 3D prototypes

When the aluminium processing plant and the LED department were founded in 2010, Oechsle brought light to shelves for the first time which could be used to good effect as a promotional tool. In addition to LED shelf lighting, their lighting solutions also comprise LED displays and LED poster frames. Since 2017, new products at Oechsle have been made tangible even during the development phase because, since then, our own 3D printer has been transforming construction plans into physical models in our technical department, more or less overnight. Oechsle is also increasingly collaborating with external development partners in order to transform promising ideas into innovative products which support sales at the point of sale.

Takeover by HL Display

HL Display has signed an agreement to acquire Oechsle Display Systems, a manufacturer of communication and shelf management solutions, and its sister company werba print & display, a provider of print and display solutions. The acquisition will expand HL’s footprint in Germany and further strengthen its position as the leading supplier for in-store merchandising and communication solutions to grocery retailers in Europe.
