New material in injection molding – PET as a complementary plastic

Oechsle already has a very broad range of plastic granulates to be processed. In addition to PC (polycarbonate), the products are also made from SAN (styrene-acrylonitrile) and PS (polystyrene). Since the demand for other plastics is constantly increasing, Oechsle has decided to include PET in its material portfolio in the future.

But what is PET and why did we choose this plastic? PET is the abbreviation for polyethylene terephthalate and is one of the plastics that we come across most frequently in everyday life. In recycled form, it is used, for example, for the production of fleece products, for the production of foils or small electrical devices. However, PET is particularly popular in the food sector because it is resistant to oils and fats as well as alcohol and diluted acids. It is also easy to shape into different shapes. And it has the great advantage that it is completely recyclable as a pure substance.

In order to be able to process PET optimally in the future, Oechsle has invested in the associated peripheral equipment for injection molding. Test series with different products are currently running on the machines, including various compartment dividers. Series production and delivery are planned for the end of Q2 / 2021.
